Who We Are
The Resident and Fellow Alliance is a union of more than 260 residents and fellow physicians employed at the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) who work at Ascension Borgess and Bronson Healthcare.We are a democratic organization run by volunteer members and our leadership consists of residents and fellows who were elected by their colleagues.
RFA is leading the way to improve the working conditions of resident physicians so we can provide the best care possible to patients while bargaining for the support and respect we deserve on the job. As resident physicians, we chose this career path because we care about people, we want to show up for others, and do what we can to make people’s lives better. Now we’re showing up for one another to improve our working conditions, ensure our patients are getting the best care, and make the entire hospital system a better place for everyone.
Our Unionization Effort
More than 260 residents and fellow physicians at the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) successfully unionized after an overwhelming 152-12 victory on March 21, 2024. 93 percent of the residents voting certified the Resident & Fellow Alliance (RFA) as their union. RFA is affiliated with AFT Michigan/AFT/AFL-CIO.
